2 Chickens. 5 Bucks.

Tear is running a simple little promo for Easter: Buck, Buck, Buck, Buck, Buck – 2 Chickens. 5 Bucks.

Tear

Don’t get me wrong – I’m a big fan of chocolate and I’m going to smash a few little Lindt bunnies this Easter – but instead of buying too much chocolate to celebrate this season, why not buy a couple of chickens this Easter for $5!

“Enable a poor family to start breeding chickens and enjoy a supply of eggs to eat and sell. At only $5, TEAR’s Chickens make eggs-cellent Easter gifts!

A couple of chickens may provide a life-line to those people living close to poverty. Their eggs not only provide additional sustenance, but surplus eggs can be sold to help with a family’s income.”

So instead of giving your family and friends choccie eggs to indulge in, give some chickens that will supply some real eggs to some people who need them just to survive…! $5 to give life, or $5 for indulgence… or hey, if you’ve got $10 then give both!

Get your eggs online at: www.usefulgifts.org/gift/chickens/, or call 1800 244 986 to place your order.

From Cup to Crop

Cup to CropI recently came across this great new program called Cup to Crop.

This sort of thing is something I’ve been thinking about for a while, so I am encouraged that someone is on the ball and doing it! It’s basically a creative way to fight hunger in the developing world, particularly among Children.

“About 5.3 million children under the age of five die each year in developing countries from malnutrition and hunger-related illness.

This is not only unacceptable, but also completely preventable.”

One of the best parts of this is the ‘Dining to Donate’ program. We love to eat, and the Kids in developing countries need to eat! So if you like to dine why not get out there and eat at one of these restaurants and give the $3…not much in the scope of things!

CAN do…!

Compassion CANI joined the Compassion CAN (Child Advocate Network) yesterday… been thinking about it for a while and decided it’s time to take some action (so to speak!).

I’m excited to get into promoting the awareness of child poverty and challenging those around me (and myself!) to take action to relieve this poverty and to support the world’s most needy kids. Compassion has a big dream:

“At Compassion, our vision is that ‘every Australian Christian is an advocate for children’. Our dream is to see all followers of Jesus in our nation engaged in child advocacy.”

If they can get even close to this…what a massive impact it would have on child poverty! If you are passionate about children, and excited about helping those living in poverty then i’d encourage you to take some action and join the CAN!

If you’re not keen to join, that’s cool, but if you keep reading this blog then I’m going to do my best to challenge people to take some action… so I hope you might consider it!

Support Save the Children’s relief efforts in Japan

In response to the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan, Save the Children has launched a special campaign to raise $5 million to respond to kids ongoing and urgent needs. Its a big goal, so dig deep and contribute what you can!

Save the Children estimate that up to 100,000 children have been displaced and are at risk, having experienced an earthquake, tsunami and now incidents at nuclear power plants. Many children are staying in over 2,050 evacuation centres, some of which have no electricity or running water available.

Give a gift a month

You might know about the good old Tear gift catalogue and give something at Chrissie, once a year, but here’s a challenge to give a more regular gift of life to someone who really needs it: Gift A Month program

“TEAR Australia’s Gift A Month program enables you to help create a world of change.”

By buying a Useful Gift each month for a whole year, you’re supporting TEAR’s Christian partners as they work in partnership with communities overseas, helping them overcome poverty and marginalisation.

Gift A Month is ideal for involving your family, workplace, church or faith community in remembering the poor and supporting them in their fight for justice.

Check it out: http://www.tear.org.au/gift-a-month/

It begins with you…

If you are passionate about child poverty then this is your chance to take some action and let others know about the plight of the world’s most needy kids, and more than that get more people involved in helping them out.

“The purpose of this special, one-day event is to draw the Church’s attention to the needs of the world’s poorest children.”

It began for me with Tenny, and I’m hoping that this campaign will start some new relationships between some sponsors and some needy kids.

If you want to change the world, it begins with a child, it begins with you. So either think about running a Compassion Sunday event yourself, or just get straight into it and sponsor a child!

Help Launch a Leader

Compassion Leadership Development Program

Check out a new program by Compassion called Compassion’s Leadership Development Program that exists to develop Christian leaders, enabling young men and women to bring changes to their communities and perhaps even their nation.

“Because Compassion believes that releasing children from poverty is the key to transforming nations, we are committed to empowering young people to become the leaders their communities and countries need.”

What I love about this is that not only are Compassion looking to the immediate needs of people in poverty, but this is setting up these communities and even nations for a more positive future by giving the young kids opportunities that most of us in western countries just take for granted! it’s a bigger commitment financially, but what an awesome investment…
